The magnitude of international conflicts is lessened in comparison to the previous years. Though there will still be incidents and aggression, turbulence is substantially less to overcome. Peace talks in 2009 have a more positive and stable affect on our state of economy, confidence and stability in the world view.

The word psychic (pronounced /saikik/; from the Greek psychikos--of the soul, mental') refers to the ability to perceive things hidden from the normal senses through what is described as extra-sensory perception, or to those people said to have such abilities.

The truth of the matter is that everyone has extra sensory abilities or psychic-ness. It is what the common-or-garden term used these days is your 'gut feeling', intuition, sixth sense; that little voice in your head that tells you otherwise. It is the sense that tells you to avoid a certain place or person without any logical reason. Everything and everyone has a psychic ability that we either choose to use or ignore. It is just a matter of being aware of your own unique gift.

Being a psychic person in simple terms is the process of being aware and developing a greater heightened awareness of being aware. For some it might be a daunting task and for others is might be easier. After thirty years of practice as a professional psychic, I cannot count the number of times people have asked "Why should I get a reading?" or "Why should I want to know about the future, if it's inevitable?" Some even tell me they're too afraid to see what is waiting for them in the future. Before my psychic development courses, some people have asked "Why should I develop these abilities? What's the point?"

Well, here's the skinny.

Psychic information is a tool, like a database or a statistics analysis. The information gleaned from a reading is simply another factor in decision making.

If it was possible to avoid a nasty future situation -- the proverbial pit of snakes -- why wouldn't you?

Above all, remember: The future is not cast in stone. Psychics see a possible future. That possible future may be very likely. Some events may seem almost inevitable. However, there's always a possibility that the future won't happen as foreseen.

Keep in mind that precognition (literally, "future seeing") is just one of many psychic abilities and talents. Other psychic abilities may reveal your recent past, your past lives, or helpful insights about current situations. You may also get information about health, relationships or career that help you grow and prosper.

Critical thinking skills are still important. Intuitively gained information should be balanced through the intellectual process.

In that assessment, be clear on your goals, intentions and motivations before your proceed with any actions, be it a change in actions or continuing the original game plane. Before changing a course of action - or continuing the original game plan -- ask yourself questions.

Those questions should include: Why do I want to change this event? How do I want this to change? Why would I need the experience of this event?

Don't avoid the experiences that your soul needs to grow. Avoiding those experiences only makes them come back with a vengeance.

Don't give your power away to psychically gained information, whether it is from your own connection or someone else's. Our intuition should never be a way to try and cheat life. Never abdicate your responsibility to live your life to the fullest.

Even those with the strongest psychic abilities have lessons to learn through specific life experiences. In other words: No cheating! Don't try to get the answers from the back of the book.

In conclusion, why bother with psychic abilities? To help yourself and others lead a better life. Once you allow yourself access to these gifts, you'll see that light can be brought into this world.

Whether the advice comes from a psychic or from your own intuition, psychic gifts can help you realize your soul's purpose.

Have you ever decided not to take the "perfect" job because of a bad "gut feeling"? Did you then realize afterward that if you had taken it, you would have spent every day hating being there?

What about taking a punt and going on a date or starting a relationship with someone who is not "your type" - and ending up getting married to them!

We've all heard about the benefits of following our intuition - but how do you know if your intuition is right - or - is it that wishful thinking, wild imagination or your own inner fears are responsible - and you are just kidding yourself?

The problem here is really in the way the question is asked. It's not really whether you know your intuition is right - it's more - how do you know when your intuition is leading you astray?

Just think about the difference between those two questions for a moment.

Intuition is really about knowing and feeling in the present, but still keeping a focus on what is best for you in reality. The first step is to identify what you are feeling - and then to determine if that feeling is telling you to take a course of action which is either rational or irrational.

Let me give you an example. Let's say you have just got a really strong "gut feeling" to use all the money you currently have to buy tickets in tonight's lottery.

Is that really your intuition talking?

It's more likely to be your wishful thinking of getting rich quickly (and without any effort) rather than your intuition.

Here are some questions to ask yourself whenever you get a feeling like this.

1. Am I feeling like doing something that seems irrational?

2. Is the action that I feel like taking within my control?

3. Is what I feel drawn to within my moral and ethical code?

4. Is the feeling a response to something I am dealing with right now?

5. Do I feel totally drawn towards (or driven away from) something my intuition is telling me to do?

Spending all your money in the hope you will win a lottery does not meet most of the above criteria - so no matter how strongly you feel about your chances of winning, it's not realistic because the odds are completely stacked against you!

If you were to follow this feeling it could devastate you financially - and true intuition would not try to lead you down a damaging path like that. If it were me, I would buy a ticket - but only one. Don't forget it only takes one ticket to win - so if you are destined - one is enough!

On the other hand, let's say you get a really strong sense to call up a long lost friend. You are likely to be correct in following that hunch. It meets most of the criteria in that it is something within your control that you can do - it's sincere - and, it's reasonable. So call up your friend and enjoy the nostalgia.

So, the next time you are trying to work out whether a "hunch" is wishful thinking or not, try to keep the checklist of questions in mind. It just might help you determine that you aren't just kidding yourself and that your intuition is right.

A national poll from 2006 revealed that only 60% of Americans believed that young people should be taught the value of hard work and studying. One writer commenting on this statistic tried to spin it positively, by revealing that the figure was less than 40% among Europeans. But there is one group today where just about 100% would support the notion of hard work and study - people who are working for an online college degree.

Getting a college degree is not an easy thing to do, online or on campus. The research indicates that a person who goes to an online college for a degree is less likely to drop out, gets higher grades and has fewer disciplinary issues.
